Fishing on Rookery Isles is three vocations in one, quiet freshwater casting, open-sea sport fishing, and big-game boss hunts, and on this ArcheAge 3.0 server it opens up at character Level 52.
Requirements
You must be Character Level 52 to gather in the open world on Rookery Isles. Mining, Logging, Gathering, Farming, Husbandry, and Fishing are all gated at character Level 52 (the client enforces this), so you cannot mine, chop, harvest, farm, raise livestock, or fish until you reach Level 52. Bench crafting and processing have no level requirement, but their materials come from gathering. The Anya Vein adds a further gate of 50,000 Mining proficiency on top of Level 52.

How Fishing Works
Fishing is one of the 22 player vocations on Rookery Isles, sitting in the Harvesting tab of your proficiency window alongside Mining, Logging, Gathering, Farming, and Husbandry. Like every gathering vocation, it has a proficiency score that climbs as you fish, and a rank ladder that unlocks better tools at fixed thresholds.
You must reach character Level 52 before you can fish in the open world. This is the single most important thing to know on Rookery Isles. Like every world-gathering vocation here (Mining, Logging, Gathering, Farming, Husbandry, and Fishing), Fishing's world-interaction skills carry a character Level 52 requirement, and the client enforces it, so you cannot cast a line until you hit Level 52. The rod component recipes carry their own "requires level 52" label too; that one is an upstream crafted-goods label, but the casting gate is real on this server.
What does gate you is Fishing proficiency, which controls which rods you can equip. Your proficiency rank follows the shared crafting/gathering ladder:

The Fishing Skills & Labor
Every cast spends labor, the shared resource that powers all gathering and crafting. Different fishing actions cost wildly different amounts of labor, which is the server's way of pricing the value of the catch. These labor costs are confirmed from the server data.

There are also control inputs for the sport-fishing mini-game (Move Left/Right/Down, Jump, Flee, Run, Release), plus Ice Fishing, Stealthy Fishing, and Fishing Cove variants whose exact labor is not server-confirmed.
Two different proficiency mechanics. The Fishing Proficiency Boost Scroll's own description spells out how proficiency helps, and it differs by fishing type:
- Normal (bobber) fishing, higher proficiency boosts the chance of catching a higher-grade item.
- Big-game / sport fishing, higher proficiency boosts the damage you deal to the fish during the reel-in mini-game, so you land it faster.
Fishing Rods (Proficiency-Gated)
Your rod is gated by Fishing proficiency, not character level, every rod has a level requirement of 0. The proficiency requirement matches a rank-ladder threshold, so reaching, say, 10,000 proficiency (completing Amateur) unlocks the Steel rod.

A few things to plan around:
- The Archeum and Thunderstruck rods are effectively Master-rank rods. They need 50,000 proficiency, exactly the Master cap. The Thunderstruck Fishing Rod is not sold; it is the grand prize of the Fishing Contest.
- The Frozen Wave Fishing Rod (35055) is special. Beyond needing 120,000 proficiency, it is the rod required to carve a fishing hole in Miroir Tundra (ice fishing) and to do "advanced fishing" on Freedich Island. If you intend to fish the frozen north or the contested center of the ocean, this is your endgame rod.
- All seven rods, Bamboo through Frozen Wave, sell for just 20 copper each from a fishing vendor, the real cost is the proficiency you need to use them, not the coin.
- Event rods exist, the Lucid Mirage Fishing Rod (30765 and family) performs like an Archeum rod but is time-limited (2hr/1hr/30min) and built for the Mirage Fishing Contest. Santiago's and Frozen Miroir rods carry no proficiency gate but are quest/event-bound.
A Fishing Proficiency Boost Scroll (36205) lets you temporarily use a rod above your proficiency cap, but it does not raise your rank and does not reduce labor. It is a stopgap, not a shortcut.
Crafting Your Own Rod
Rather than a single recipe, a finished rod is assembled from five parts, a Pole Frame + Reel + Hook + Line + Coin, using the "Craft Fishing Rod" and "Unwrap" skills. All of these are ordinary crafted goods (the recommend_level 52 you see is the standard crafted-goods label, not a gate).

Because the lines and reels lean on Lumber, ingots, and cloth, a self-sufficient angler usually has at least passing levels in Mining, Logging, and Husbandry/Tailoring for the wool.
Bait, Chum & Lures
The catch you can attract depends on what you put in the water. Bait and chum attract fish; lures are required for sport fishing and must be matched to your rod tier.

The order matters. Per the in-game lure description: use lures only after you have attracted fish with the appropriate bait. Bait the school first, then cast your matched lure. Lures are sold by General Merchants and on fishing boats.
Fresh, Sea & Sport Fishing
Rookery's fishing splits into three distinct play styles, each with its own rod tier, labor cost, and payout.
- Freshwater (normal) fishing. The cheapest and most accessible. Stand at the edge of a river, lake, or pond, cast the bobber (skill 21571, 5 labor), and reel in freshwater species like Carp, Arowana, Electric Eel, Catfish, and Piranha. Higher proficiency raises the chance of a higher-grade catch. Use Chum for large freshwater fish and Rainbow Chum for the rare ones. This is the right place to grind early proficiency.
- Sea (sport) fishing. The mini-game. From a boat over a School of Fish, you bait a school, cast a tier-matched lure, and play the reel-in (skill 21578, 100 labor), using the Move/Jump/Flee/Run controls to tire the fish without snapping your line. Sea sport fish, Bluefin, Sailfish, Blue Marlin, Sturgeon, Sunfish, Pufferfish, are the big money. Higher proficiency increases the damage you deal each reel, landing the fish faster.
- Big-game fishing. The highest-labor variant (skill 27050, 400 labor), reserved for the largest catches and the boss-fish hunts, Kraken and Lusca tentacles harvested from the deep-sea bosses. This is endgame, free-PvP-ocean content; bring a crew and a warship.
Fish Species & Sizes
Each fish you land becomes a single-slot Seafood trade pack you carry on your back (all are category Seafood, item level 1). Species come in size tiers, Fry → base → Gargantuan, and the bigger the fish, the more it is worth. Prices below are item base prices in copper (k = thousand); actual fishery buyback may differ.

The Gargantuan Sunfish (39733) is the single highest-value catch in the game at a 10,000,000 copper base price, the white whale of Rookery's anglers.

Event & regional variants
Seasonal and event fishing produces rarer skins of the same species: Scaled Sturgeon/Sailfish/Bluefin and the Charging Marlin; Shining Sturgeon/Sailfish/Bluefin/Blue Marlin (800k, 880k); the Pink Marlin family from the Mirage event (including a Lucky variant); Dropped Ice Tuna from Miroir/winter fishing; Pink and Scaled Pufferfish; and the lore-flavored Undigested packs (Carp/Arowana/Electric Eel/Kraken's Tentacle) recovered from a creature's stomach.

Fishing infrastructure exists at three scales, the open sea, the coast, and your own backyard.

For freshwater grinding, any river or lake in a starter zone works, Solzreed Peninsula, Gweonid Forest, Marianople, Lilyut Hills on Nuia, or the Haranya equivalents. For sport fishing, head to the Arcadian Sea, Sunspeck Sea, or the contested waters off Auroria, but remember all seas are free-PvP. The ocean is where the money is and where you are most likely to lose a loaded boat to pirates.
Fish Finders & Fishing Boats
Out on open water you cannot see schools of fish with the naked eye, you need a Fish Finder, navigation equipment that mounts on fishing boats, merchant schooners, and small/medium warships. The only meaningful difference between tiers is range (and weight/price): a longer range finds schools from farther away.

The top four can be crafted from designs (35986 to 35989). To put a fishing boat in the water at all, you will summon one with Scroll: Daru's Fishing Boat (41559), or build a permanent one, which requires a Fishing License (see below). See the Mounts & Ships Guide for boat handling.
Selling & Processing the Catch
A landed fish is a trade pack sitting on your back, slowing you down, so you take it to a fishery to cash out or open it for rewards.
- Sell at a fishery. Fishery NPCs buy fish for copper, but not every fishery buys every species. The data defines 7 fishery buy-lists: two of them buy nearly all species, while the others take narrower selections. If one fishery refuses your catch, try another.
- Convert (open) the catch. Some fish are "converted", opened for a reward pack rather than sold flat. The Gargantuan Bluefin, for instance, converts into a reward loot pack rather than a fixed copper sale.
- Base value scales hard with size. A Carp Fry is worth 20,000 copper; a Gargantuan Sunfish, 10,000,000. Always finish the reel-in to land the largest size you can, the difference between Fry and Gargantuan is the difference between a snack and a fortune.
Note: the numbers above are item base prices. The actual buyback value at a fishery NPC, including any freshness or distance bonus, is not exposed in the server data, so treat base prices as a relative ranking rather than the exact coin you will receive.
Fishing Contests, Boosts & Licenses
Fishing has its own competitive event chain and a small kit of consumables.

The Fishing Contest is the headline event. Placing produces Victory Cups, Participation Rewards, Victory Packs, and ranked Titles (Rank 1 to 10), and the grand prize is the Thunderstruck Fishing Rod (29702), a Master-tier rod you cannot buy any other way. Contest reward boxes come in tiers ("Open Fishing Contest Reward Box: Mythic / Legendary / … / Grand"). There is also a separate Mirage Fishing Contest using the time-limited Mirage / Lucid Mirage rods and the Mirage Lure.
Zone Fishing Loot
Every fishable zone defines two loot pools: a land/shore pool (fishing_land_loot_pack_id) for freshwater casting and a sea pool (fishing_sea_loot_pack_id) for open water. A zone with a sea pack of 0 has no open-water fishing; a zone with a land pack of 0 has no shore fishing. Fifty zone groups define fishing loot, a representative slice:

Honest caveat: the server data records which loot pool each zone uses, but the actual contents of those pools, exactly which fish or items each pack drops, and at what rates, are stored outside this database. So this table tells you a zone can be fished and which broad pool it draws from, but not a per-zone species list or drop chance. Anyone telling you precise per-zone drop rates is reporting community lore, not server-confirmed data.
What Fish Feed (Cooking)
Fishing is a major feeder for Cooking, but the chain runs through the convert step rather than feeding the trade pack directly. The fish packs you carry are not themselves cooking ingredients, they are converted/opened at a fishery first, and the edible fish or fillets that come out are the Cooking inputs.
Because those convert-pool contents live outside the readable server data, the wiki cannot publish an exact "this fish → this dish" table without guessing, and the no-lies rule means we will not. What is certain: Seafood is a real Cooking category, fish are its source, and stocking a kitchen is one of the best reasons to fish beyond raw trade-pack sales. On Rookery Isles
A few places where Rookery differs from a stock ArcheAge 3.0 build, or where common community claims do not hold up against this server's data:
- World gathering requires Level 52. On Rookery Isles, Fishing and every other world-gathering vocation (Mining, Logging, Gathering, Farming, Husbandry) carry a character Level 52 requirement that the client enforces. You cannot fish in the open world until you reach Level 52. Bench crafting and processing have no level requirement.
- Rod gates are proficiency, on top of the Level 52 baseline. Once you can fish at Level 52, which rod you may equip is gated by Fishing proficiency, not by further levels; reaching 50,000 Fishing proficiency is the only thing standing between you and an Archeum rod.
- Per-zone fish lists and drop rates are not server-verifiable. The loot pools are defined externally to the game database, so any specific "fish X drops in zone Y at Z%" claim is community-reported, not confirmed. We list the pools, not invented drop tables.
- The exact fish → Cooking-ingredient mapping is likewise not confirmable from server data, for the same reason, it routes through external convert pools.
- All seas are free-PvP. Sport and big-game fishing happen on lawless water. The biggest payouts carry the biggest risk.
